Nombreux sont cependant ceux critiquant l’appel du Président français à un dialogue stratégique avec la Russie. Le débat est ouvert. L’université de Bonn et l’Institut français ont organisé en novembre 2020 une table ronde sur ce sujet : « Avons-nous besoin d’une Ostpolitik 2.0 ? Visions depuis l’Allemagne et la France ». Il est intéressant d’envisager ces deux visions.

Pourtant, en dépit de cette apparente continuité territoriale entre Europe de l’Est et Europe de l’Ouest, la situation géographique de la Russie a toujours fait naître un questionnement sur sa place dans l’Europe ou par rapport à l’Europe, faisant régulièrement ressurgir celui sur les frontières du Vieux Continent. L’Europe politique pourra-t-elle un jour rejoindre sa réalité géographique, tout au moins partiellement ?
