17H30 WELCOME BY: DR. ANTONIO FIGUEIREDO LOPES, ACTING PRESIDENT OF THE EURODEFENSE NETWORK
António Jorge de Figueiredo Lopes has a long and rich career in the Portuguese civil service in state administration and finance. This was crowned with a position as Secretary of State for National Defense, and subsequently as Minister of Internal Administration. Dr. Lopes has maintained his active involvement in the European debate as visiting professor at the Portuguese Catholic University, membership in committees, and last but not least as president of EuroDefense Portugal. He has participated in several governments as Secretary of State, was also Portugal Minister of Defense and member of the European Parliament.
17H35 FIRST PANEL MODERATED BY DR. HANNA OJANEN
Dr Hanna Ojanen is an expert on European foreign, security and defence policy. Before taking up the position of Adjunct Professor at the Finnish National Defence University, and at the University of Helsinki, she has held several leading positions at international research institutes with a consistent focus on international relations and international security organizations. Her latest research has focused on interorganizational relations (particularly EU-NATO-UN relations), which culminated in the publishing of her book entitled The EU’s Power in Inter-Organisational Relations. In recent years, Dr. Ojanen has been founding president of EuroDefense Finland, the latest addition to the network. It is in this capacity that she will moderate the first round of discussions.
17H40 – DRS. I.A. VAN DOORN
Drs. Iric van Doorn, in his decades spanning international career, has been senior consultant with Berenschot Consultants, Board Member, co-founder and president of a variety of initiatives. More recently he has been Co-founder and chair of the Netherlands Human Rights Round Table, Advisor to Netherlands Society for Foreign Affairs (NGIZ), and Board member of several companies and foundations amongst which is his vice chairmanship of the Dutch chapter of EuroDefense. In this capacity Iric van Doorn was also the Chairman of the European Working Group 27 which serves as the basis to the event’s discussion. He is now vice-president EuroDefense Nederland
17H50 DRª. LILIANA REIS
Liliana Reis holds a PhD in Political Science and International Relations from University of Minho (Braga, Portugal). Currently, she is assistant professor at University of Beira Interior and director of the degree in Political Science and International Relations at the Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies in Lisbon. She is also a researcher in Portuguese Institute of International Relations. Her research interests fall mainly into European Studies and the Common Security and Defense Policy, Global Governance and Human Rights. She was awarded the Honorable mention of the José Medeiros Ferreira Prize.

18H30 SECOND PANEL MODERATED BY DRS. BART BROUWERS
Bart Brouwers is a recent graduate of the University of Amsterdam and the University of Utrecht where he studied history and international relations. During his studies, he has been especially focussed on the enlargement of the European Union and the role of identity in international relations. Having joined EuroDefense in the spring of 2020, he has shared a secretary position to the interim board of the association’s Dutch chapter. In this capacity, he has taken a leading role in the European Outreach working group that seeks to increase publicity for work done by EuroDefense.
18H35 GENERAL FEDERICO YANIZ
Federico Yaniz is a general of the Spanish Armed Forces with a background in the country’s air force. After initial experiences as a staff officer, he joined the International Military Staff at NATO Headquarters. Having earned the rank of General, he remained involved in international military cooperation by joining the International Military Staff as Assistant Director for Cooperation and Regional Security wherein he focused on NATO’s Partnership for Peace and the Mediterranean Dialog. Subsequently he was appointed Director of the Museo de Aeronáutica y Astronáutica. Over the years, Federico Yaniz has remained actively involved in discussions by authoring numerous publications and partaking in several nonprofit organizations and his vice-presidency of EuroDefense Spain.
18H45 LIEUTENANT GENERAL JEAN PAUL PERRUCHE
Lt Gal (ret) Jean Paul PERRUCHE is consultant in Strategy, International Organisations and crisis management, Research Senior Fellow qualified by the European Parliament, Former President of EURODEFENSE-FRANCE, member of the Strategic Advisory Group of the Atlantic Council of the USA and member of the scientific Board of the “Fondation Schuman”. Previously he was Research Director in the IRSEM; Director General of the European Union Military Staff (EUMS) 04-07. Earlier he was Assistant to the Chief of Staff of the FR.Army, Division Commander, Chief of the Fr. Military Mission to SHAPE, Adviser to the Fr.Chief of Defense Staff for Euro Atlantic Security. He attended Operations in Kosovo (2003) as DCOM, in Somalia 1993 and Chad 1978-79.
